 | Description | |
Lavacourt lies across the Seine from Vétheuil, where Monet settled in 1878. The simple composition, showing dilapidated cottages on the river bank, allows the artist to concentrate on the play of light on snow. Although dated 1881 it was probably painted earlier. Monet often added a signature and date, sometimes inaccurate, long after he had finished a picture.
