Description

This may depict an old friend of Gauguin's from Paris, the Spanish guitarist Francisco Durrio. The broad forms and bright colors suggest, however, that the work dates from the artist's second stay in Tahiti (1895-1901). The figure is painted over a seated Tahitian woman, visible in X-rays.
