 | Description | |
Cézanne's father, a wealthy banker, is turned away from the artist, immersed in his newspaper. This ambitious large-scale portrait is one of Cézanne's earliest works. It was painted directly onto a wall in the salon at the Jas de Bouffan, the house near Aix-en-Provence that his father had purchased in 1859.
