 | Description | |
Van Gogh entered St. Paul's Hospital, a mental sanatorium in St-Rémy-de-Provence, in May 1889. This one-eyed man was most likely a patient there as well. The painting's title comes from the artist's brother Theo's description of it when Vincent sent it to him.
