Description

Under a stormy sky a naked man emerges from an agitated sea. Violent contrasts of light and shadow create a bumpy surface across his muscular body. The subject suggests a relationship to Géricault's masterpiece, "The Raft of the Medusa" (Musée du Louvre, Paris), but it may rather be a study for a series of large Italian landscapes.
