Description   

A winnower tosses grain to allow the wind to blow away the chaff. This is Millet's first major depiction of a peasant, painted about the time of the February 1848 Revolution and exhibited at that year's Paris Salon. It was later believed destroyed and was only rediscovered in 1927.
