 | Description | |
Saint George's slaying of the dragon and rescue of the princess represents the Christian triumph over evil. It was a favorite subject of Italian Renaissance masters, including Raphael, whom Moreau greatly admired. Moreau's first studies for this painting date from the 1860s, but it was completed, on commission, some 20 years later.
