 | Description | |
The fantastical landscape and sky are the true subjects of this painting. They provide the setting for tales associated with Eurydice's death from a snake - bite on her wedding day, as told in the Roman poet Virgil's Georgics (Book 4). This canvas belongs to a series of mythological landscapes made by Niccolò when court painter to François I at Fontainebleau.
