An executioner deposits the head of John the Baptist in a basin for Salome, who, later presents it to a horrified Herod on the instructions of her mother, Herodias. This painting was made in Milan, under the influence of Leonardo da Vinci. It is the repetition of another picture by Cesare now in Vienna.
