Description

A boy walks along the seashore, carrying a shrimping net over his shoulder and accompanied by a small white dog. The evening star appears as a faint point in the sky, reflected more brightly in the water. The painting is unfinished and a boat has been painted out at centre right.

The title is not Turner's own, but is taken from some lines of Turner's verse scribbled in a sketchbook used in 1829-1830.
