 | Description | |
Antoine Pâris (1668-1733) was the eldest of the four Pâris brothers, major financiers in early 18th-century France. Antoine died in exile in Lorraine. The setting in a columned library and the opulent draperies suggest nobility and learning.
This portrait is one of the two recorded by Rigaud as being painted in 1724. The frame is the original.
