 | Description | |
This painting is one of Lancret's most ambitious of the works and often considered his masterpiece. It has traditionally been called "The Cup of Chocolate". In fact the servant is holding a coffee pot, and the painting was exhibited at the 1742 Paris Salon with the title now given to it. The family and its manservant are not thought to be portraits of specific individuals.
