Saint John and Mary Magdalene prepare to carry Christ's body to the tomb in the rock. The painting is probably from a predella, the plinth for an altarpiece showing narrative scenes from the life of Christ or saints. It has been slightly cut. Much of the figure in purple on the right must have been lost.
