Description

Cherries are offered to the infant Christ in a golden chalice, which is a reminder of Francia's work as a goldsmith -almost all of which has been lost. The painting exists in another version, the merit of which has caused this one to be unjustly suspected as a forgery for nearly half a century.

Inscribed : OPVS FRANCIAE AVR[EFIC]IS [M]CCCCLXXXX (the work of Francia, goldsmith, 1490).
