Description

The Doge, in his golden state robes, performs the annual visitation to the Church of San Rocco (on the right). This occurred on 16 August to commemorate the end of the 1576 plague. Roch was one of the saints invoked to provide protection against the plague. For the occasion, the adjacent Scuola di San Rocco was decorated with paintings.
