A crowd of elegantly dressed figures wander about, conversing and listening to an orchestra in the rotunda. This edifice was opened in the Ranelagh Gardens in Chelsea in 1741 and, until its closure in 1803, was used for public entertainments, including orchestral performances and organ recitals. Mozart performed there in 1764.
