 | Description | |
At the request of sisters Mary Magdalene (kneeling) and Martha, Christ raises their brother Lazarus from the death. Mourning Jews witness the miracle; one of them is holding his nose because Lazarus has been dead for four days. The altarpiece was painted for Cardinal Giulio de' Medici (later Pope Clement VII), in competition with Raphael's "Transfiguration", now in the Vatican Gallery.
