 | Description | |
Christ receives a carnation (or pink), a symbol of divine love, from his cousin, Saint John the Baptist. This work was made a year or two after "The Madonna of the Pinks". The perfect oval of the Virgin's head, set between the vertical elements of the architecture, reveals Raphael's growing interest in pure geometric forms.
