Description

Saint Luke traditionally painted the Virgin, who appeared before him. For this reason he was often the patron saint of painters' guilds. His attribute of an ox lies at his feet. In accordance with contemporary practice, his picture is already in its frame, and he keeps his gold in a mussel shell.
