Berlin architect Hans Kollhoff was a member of the international team of architects headed by master planner Renzo Piano that designed the nineteen buildings in the Potsdamer Platz district.
With a height of 103 meters, the Kollhoff Tower is the tallest building in the Potsdamer Platz district. Like some of the other buildings, the Kollhoff Tower has a ceramic outer material. Nonetheless, with its dark peat-fired tiles it stands out from the rest and provides a contrast to the geometrical emphasis of the glass frontages of the neighboring tower blocks by Renzo Piano and Helmut Jahn. Together, the three buildings make a striking architectural statement at Potsdamer Platz.
The Potsdamer Platz No. 1 home to a number of prestigious law firms. Potsdamer Platz No. 1 is also home to the "Panoramapunkt" viewing platform, located 100 m above ground level, which is accessed by riding Europe's fastest elevator. From the Panoramapunkt one can see such landmarks as the Brandenburg Gate, Reichstag, Federal Chancellery, Bellevue Palace, Cathedral, Television Tower, Gendarmes Market, Holocaust Memorial and Kaiser Wilhelm Memorial Church.
