 | Description | |
The mixed style of Hollein's Austrian Embassy announces its public areas in green, the ambassador's residence in red and offices in gray. Perhaps its most successful space is the naturally lit atrium beside an auditorium, which opens onto the embassy's green circular public entrance.
Austria has acquired a new piece of land on the corner of Tiergartenstraße and Stauffenbergstraße not far from its previous property in the diplomatic quarter. In 1996, the Republic of Austria invited tenders for an architectural design competition for its new embassy building which was open to professional architects throughout the European Union. The competition was won by the Viennese architect, Prof. Hans Hollein. The new complex comprises the embassy offices, the ambassador`s residence and rooms for social and cultural functions. The Austrian Embassy has a total usable space of approx. 3.700 sq.m.
