 | Description | |
This early work introduces a technique that Seurat would soon fully develop, which became known as Pointillism. Whereas Impressionism was based on the effects of light and the use of pure color, Pointillism was a technique using ordered compositions of harmonious, juxtaposed dots of color. Seurat's Pointillist works are characterized by solid, formal compositions embellished with a highly complex, decorative painted surface.
