| Description | |
From its conception, this fountain was conceived as an allegory of Louis XIV's victory over the Fronde. In 1678, an octagonal ring of turf and eight rocaille fountains surrounding the central fountain were added. These additions were removed in 1708. When in play, this fountain has the tallest jet of all the fountains in the gardens of Versailles - 25 meters (Marie 1968, 1972, 1976, 1984; Thompson 2006; Verlet 1985). |
