The inner part, such as partition board, awning, windows and doors of its back chamber were fit up in the middle of Qing Dynasty. According to the institutions of the imperial court, imperial concubines lived in it. But Emperor Qianlong made it is study. When he died in the 4th year of Jiaqing's reign, Emperor Jiaquing observed mourning for him about 27 days in the east room there. He slept on the felt rug and kept on handling government affairs. From then on, Emperor Daoguang, Xianfeng and Tongzhi also followed the example of him. The hanging scroll Ke Jing Ju written in Chinese and Manchu script in blue color was carved by Emperor Wianfeng's order when he observed mourning of his father.
Emperor Xianfeng died of illness in the 11th year of his reign (1861) and his son Emperor took the throne. His mother Cixi and Empress Ci'an began to hold court from behind a creen. Xian Fu Gong Hall and Tong Dao Tang Hall were the places they had a rest when they handled government affairs. And there were Cixi's handwriting of the hanging scroll and antithetical couplet stored there. The area of Xia Fu Gong Hall is open to visitors ans exhibits this special history of the imperial court to them. |
