Description
This hall was renovated again in 1802 and 1884. It is nine bays wide and five bays deep, with a double roof in wudian (thatched hall) style covered with yellow glazed tiles. On the lunar New Year of 1796, Emperor Qianlong handed the throne over to his son and a grand ceremony was held in the Tai Ha Dian (Hall of Supreme Harmony). On the fourth day of the first lunar month, Emperor Qianlong held a banquet for 1,000 elderly men at his hall. Empresse Dowager Ci Xi celebrated her 60th birthday anniversary here and on 70th anniversary she received foreign envoys at this hall. Before Empress Dowager Ci Xi was buried, her coffin was placed in this hall. The words "Huang Ji" are from the "Book of History" and mean "the emperor sets the supreme rule".
