Description
In the Ming and Qing dynasties, this hall was where the emperor offered sacrifices to his ancestors ; hence he served as the imperial ancestral temple. Every year on New year's Day, the Winter Solstice, the emperor's birthday, the day when the emperor conferred a title on an imperial concubine and on the birthdays of previous emperors and empresses, a ceremony was held at Feng Xian Deng to offer sacrifices to the imperial ancestors. On the first day of every lunar month, the emperor would come to the hall to offer seasonal fruits and vegetables, and in autumn the emperor would offer deer or other animals he had hunted as a sacrifice to the ancestors.
