Description
In 2000, his solo exhibition took place at the Centre for Contemporary Art in Warsaw. In 2001 he won the Geppert painting contest held at the BWA Awangarda gallery in Wrocław. Since then he has been working chiefly in video and photographic works and has established, along with Hubert Czerepok, a renowned artistic duet known as Magisters. Having returned from a few months scholarship in Norway, in autumn 2002, he took up painting again.

In his paintings, Zbyszek almost ostentatiously discloses the dilemmas of a modern artist: the fact that one cannot know where covering a piece of canvas with paint leads to, that the studios are often haunted, that one can never be sure of what the mind and the eyes see, because everything can be merely a short-lived optical illusion. This is why Rogalski's painting effectively oscillates between the photo-realist and the unrestrained painter's imagination. He strives to paint a specific, modern experience of the world: flickering, fleeting and constantly less and less obvious. "I'm interested in good paintings, because they are rivals to the world they depict, even if they aren't realistic" - he says.
