The original construction here was the Hall of the Great Buddha of the Temple of Immense Gratitude and Longevity in the Garden of Clear Ripples.
Description
It was burned down by the Anglo-French Allied Forces in the 10th year of Emperor Xianfeng's reign (1860) and reconstructed on its original site in the 12th year of Emperor Guangxu's reign (1886).

The Hall that Dispels the Clouds is the main structure in the building complex on the southern slope of Longevity Hill. Every year on Empress Dowager Ci Xi's birthday she sat in the padauk throne decorated with carved dragons, receiving congratulations from Emperor Guang Xu and princes, dukes and ministers. Most of the articles displayed in the hall were birthday presents given to Ci Xi by members of the nobility.
