Along the whitewashed streets stand brilliant white box-shaped houses with stepped walls for sitting on, wooden doors and windows and brightly coloured balconies. These are interspersed with small but impressive churches, pretty little taverns and shops.
Of particular historical and aesthetic interest are the medieval houses in this district of the town, which stand like a wall above the sea protecting the west side of Chora. The main characteristic of layout of city constitute the rambling streets and the uniform architecture of buildings.
As you walk to the picturesque cobblestone pavements, you' ll meet small churches. All of these are dyed with white colour. The light blue painting cupola appears as the sky.
On the low Kastro hill is the complex of churches known collectively as Our Lady 'Paraportiani', a superb arrangement of whitewashed masses created over the centuries and now recognized as a national cultural monument.
In Matogianni, the most commercial street of Mykonos and in round from this roads you will find a lot of shops with jewels, clothes, popular art and whatever you want.
The coastal street maintains his picturesqueness. Around of him function a lot of cafeterias and taverns. |
