Steps to the left of the courtyard lead into a large, spacious assembly hall, called the Sangapa Tratsang, where in former days the Namgyel Tratsang, the Dalai Lama's personal monastic staff, would gather for their services.
Statues of several deities are enshrined behind glass and metal grilles in dark recesses along the front wall. In the rear left-hand corner is a trapdoor that leads down into a room where the Fifth Dalai Lama held audiences.
