| Kyoto Railway Station (11)
 1997 The new Kyoto Station building was built on the occasion of the 1,200th anniversary of the Heian Capital foundation. It was opened to the public in 1997. A department store, hotel, theater, game center, shopping mall, government offices, various restaurants and an observation deck can be found on the facility's 15+ floors.

| Nijo-jo (18) Kyoto Castle
 between 1603 and 1626 This castle was built in 1603 by Shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu to protect the Imperial palace, and also as his residence when he visited Kyoto. It was considerably expanded in 1626. However, difficulties of maintenance led to some of the buildings being relocated or demolished, whilst the main keep burned down in 1750 and the Honmaru Goten (palace) in 1788.

| Rokuon-jii Temple (14) Kinkaku-ji Temple Golden Pavilion
 This temple was originally the country villa (known as Kitayamadai) of Saionji, a court aristocrat, then acquired by the Shogun Ashikaga Yoshimitsu after his abdication in 1397. It was converted to a Zen temple by Muso Soseki after Yoshimitsu's death.

|  | Shimo-goryo Shrines between 839 and 1590 According to the shrine's history, the establishment was in 839 in order to calm down the spirits of the imperial prince Iyo (son of the Emperor Kammu) and his mother Fujiwara Yoshiko who died in 809 suffering adverse fortune. The number of its deities increased later to eight.
